Laser hair removal is a process that has been developed over the last 20 years, and has been in use commercially since about 2007. A skilled technician applies a special light source to the skin and this light causes restricted, localized damage only to hair and hair follicles because they are generally darker in color. Heat is created by the application of light to the follicles, and the heat is absorbed by the follicles damaging them sufficiently so they cannot generate new hair growth.
The treated skin may feel warm when the application is being administered, but actual damage to the skin is prevented by using a cooling device that cools the upper layers of skin. As with most aspects of laser hair removal, the most effective treatment with the least discomfort can be obtained by an experienced laser hair removal technician.
Because the follicles are actually damaged by this process, when it is properly applied by an experienced technician laser hair removal results in permanent hair removal. This differentiates it from other processes such as shaving, waxing, or chemical depilatory applications which |
